The Karl May Museum Radebeul

From the moment I stepped into the museum located in his former home, I immersed myself in Karl May, the famous author’s eventful life and literary works. I was transported to the adventurous world of the famous author from Saxony. Best known for his adventure novels set in the American Old West, in the Orient and in the Middle East, his works have been translated into 45 languages.

The Karl May museum features the following highlights:

Karl May’s original office and research room

‘The famous guns from his travel tales are featured, including the ‘bear killer’and the Henry rifle

In addition, there is a remarkable collection of souvenirs from the authors’ travels to the Orient and North America, rare first editions of his travel books and books for the younger amongst us.

There is also a permanent exhibition of North American Indians

The highlights of the exhibition in the log cabin include the following:

  • Rustic wild fireplace
  • Historical diorama “Return from battle”
  • A monumental painting “Indian battle on Little Bighorn” by Elk Ebere (1936)
  • Other interesting artifacts. In a collection of indigenous cultures of North America.

I come away amazed by these glimpses of yesteryear at this fascinating museum, a place for the young and old alike!
